Passport Living was a personal travel website that became a significant yet fun travel resource. Originally the site was to be completely in Flash, but was ultimately abandoned due to potentially unreasonable loading times. This first attempt was in 2004 when my Flash skills were good, but not seasoned enough to handle a website that would manage so many photos and so many different sections. I knew I needed a content management system.
The 2006 second design, the design you see today, began by first having a proper logo (inspired by vintage travel stickers), and studying travel art for the late 19th and early 20th centuries. We wanted to incorporate a vintage feel without overdoing it and once we had the logo, the site design came swiftly. The lengthiest efforts were managing the photos, which became significantly easier in when I took two weeks to build from scratch a content management system in ASP.NET/C#.
The content management system for Passport Living became a blueprint for many products my company would later launch, including 3cSnapshot (photo management) and 3cVoiceBox (blogging). This was my first serious .NET project.
